Great brands are started by a great founders.
And great founders are trail blazers. People who wanted to bring something to the world that wasn’t already there. A drive and curiosity that was born out of more than just getting rich. We can all name a few in The UK that spring to mind, Richard Branson, James Dyson, Peter Jones. But how many can we name that are women? Well, a staggering 81% of 11-18-year olds are unable to name one single female entrepreneur. We have a plan to change that. To back up that statistic, The UK has 30% fewer female entrepreneurs than the US. We have a plan to change that too.
Why is it so important to highlight this? Why can’t the products speak for themselves?
Firstly, the products do speak for themselves. Brilliant products that are innovative, creative and pioneering. But we want an additional dimension to the reason for buying from these great brands. There is a staggering lack of investment in female businesses in The UK (only 3% of funded businesses are female founded) and while the support ecosystem has made huge strides in that area, we believe we have overlooked the most obvious and accessible way to boost female owned businesses – by mobilising the spending power of consumers. Not everyone can invest in or mentor female founders but everyone can buy from them.
