Coming from a refugee background herself, Affi was particularly distressed to see the news of refugees getting stuck at various border crossings in Europe. Considering the practical ramifications of displacement, these images struck a chord, and Affi realized that the societal taboos and stigma which cause the menstrual needs of women to be overlooked in all public spaces must be significantly worse in refugee camps. Affi helped in the best way she knew how, by creating eco-friendly pads and tampons that she could bring to women facing period poverty. Through Freda, Affi offers a portion of every sale of her products to initiatives worldwide tackling period poverty.
