When working in East Africa in the charity sector, Katy was moved by the ingenuity the resourceful mums who reused, refurbished and repurposed. On her return to the UK, the contrast was astounding and she grew frustrated with the amount of single-use plastics on sale and in the bin. In response, Katy designed a range of stylish, eco-conscious reusable homeware to encourage people to waste less and reuse more. To keep the inspiration from her time spent with the incredible waste-free women of East Africa she named the business after the Swahili word ‘jiko’ meaning kitchen.
