Citizens of Soil
While working in sustainability Sarah and her husband Michael had their eyes opened to huge problems in the space of small-batch extra virgin olive oil. When they started to learn more about it, they saw an industry fraught with issues, including a dangerous lack of transparency and anonymised mass production. Independent farmers weren’t making enough money, the oil changed hands loads of times on the journey between farm and table, and the final product was a flavourless shadow of what it once was. They wanted to break that chain and allow people to taste something they never would have had the chance to before. Now partnered with inspiring female producers who farm their regenerative practices, Citizens of Soil is turning a commodity into a community.
